Extract the slides, or generate a new deck?

Two different jobs produce two different files. One recovers the pages that were on screen as images; the other writes a new deck from the narration. Both can be useful, and the choice is about what you need the file to be.

This page compares two kinds of output, not two products. No vendor is named.

  • What you get

    Extract the on-screen pages
The pages that were on screen, saved as images in a PPTX or PDF
    Generate a new deck
A new presentation written from the narration, notes or transcript
  • Where the content comes from

    Extract the on-screen pages
The picture that was actually shown
    Generate a new deck
A model’s reading of what was said or written
  • Editing the words

    Extract the on-screen pages
No. You can reorder, crop and annotate pages and add new text boxes; the original words stay part of the picture
    Generate a new deck
Often yes. Generated text is usually editable; how closely it follows the talk depends on the tool
  • The recording

    Extract the on-screen pages
Slide extraction runs in the browser tab; the video is not uploaded for extraction
    Generate a new deck
Usually needs an account and an upload, and the service processes the recording on its servers
  • Best for

    Extract the on-screen pages
Getting a deck you already saw back: an equation, a diagram, the lecturer’s own layout
    Generate a new deck
Drafting a new deck quickly from a talk, with text you can rewrite
  • Watch out for

    Extract the on-screen pages
Blur, camera movement or a whiteboard written line by line; a missed slide has to be added by hand
    Generate a new deck
Wording that sounds plausible but was not in the original; check the content against the talk

Which one fits your recording?

Choose extraction when

  • The slides already existed and you need those pages back.
  • You want the original layout, equations and diagrams, not a summary.
  • You want the video to stay on your device for slide extraction.

Choose generation when

  • You want a new deck in a chosen style, not the original pages.
  • You want editable text you can rewrite for a different audience.
  • You have notes or a transcript and no usable slide images.

Neither output is better in every case. An extractor cannot invent a deck that was never shown; a generator cannot return a page it has to write. If you need the original pages, extract them. If you need a new deck, generate one.
