What changed in the editor this month

Most of this month went into the editor — the screen where a recording has already been turned into frames and you decide which of them are actually slides. That is where the time goes, and it is where the rough edges were.

This is a plain list: what is new and what was broken. Nothing here needs a new account or a different plan.

New

  • Undo and redo

Deleting a frame used to be final. Not "hard to reverse" — final: the frame was released the moment it left the deck, so even keeping it in memory would have brought back a broken image. That is fixed underneath, which is why it took a while: nothing is released at deletion now, and a removed frame is only let go once it has fallen out of a ten-step history. Cmd/Ctrl+Z and Shift+Cmd/Ctrl+Z, or the two arrows beside Delete selected.

  • Expand preview

The video sits in a column about a third of the width, which is fine for finding a moment and too small for reading the slide you are deciding about. The button at the top right of the picture gives the player two thirds and reflows the deck into two or three columns beside it — still visible, because the job is read a thumbnail, find the moment, look closely, capture, and all four steps need both halves. Esc puts it back. Your position in the video, your selection and your scroll place all survive it.

  • Jump between detected slides

Clicking a thumbnail has always moved the video to that moment. Going the other way — stepping the player from one detected slide to the next — had no control at all, so it meant scrubbing by hand. There are now two arrows under the Capture button.

  • Clear out the near-duplicates

A slide that was built up line by line comes out as five nearly identical frames. The button that selects every shot like the one you picked is available to everyone now, and grouping looks at what the picture is rather than where its pixels are, so it holds up on a recording that wobbles.

  • Your sampling setting is remembered

If you always want Dense, you no longer have to say so on every video.

  • Buying without an account first, and paying by WeChat Pay or Alipay

The account is created as part of the checkout rather than as a gate in front of it. Card-only was also not really a payment configuration in a place where most cards are not international ones; both are switched on now.

Fixed

  • The deck lived in a box inside a box

The grid had its own scrollbar inside a page that also scrolled, and grew a third one along the bottom whenever the first appeared. It scrolls with the page now, and the player stays put beside it.

  • Every selected card glowed

A fresh deck opens with everything selected, so every card carried a bright ring — a mark every card carries is not a mark. The loud version is kept for when some, but not all, of the deck is picked, which is the case it was actually designed for.

  • A run that found nothing had nowhere to go

A recording the detector found no slides in finished, said so in one line, and stopped — a deck that looked done and empty, with nothing to try next. It now offers the setting that gets underneath it.

  • Being told a deck was too dense after asking for Dense

The over-detection warning did not check whether you had asked for that.

  • Resample on a file the browser could not open

A button that cannot work should not be offered. In a batch, one unreadable file is now left out of the run instead of failing each one in turn.

  • The C shortcut crashed on some keyboards

Not keyboards, in fact: a password manager or an extension dispatching a keydown with no key at all, which stopped the handler before it reached the shortcut.

Nothing changed about the part that matters

Your recording is still read inside the tab. It is not uploaded, it does not reach a server, and none of the above moved that line.
